💧 Pelvic & Obstetric Hydration Rules
For pelvic and obstetric (pregnancy) scans, sound waves travel best through liquid. You must drink 3 to 4 large glasses of water 1 hour before your scan appointment. Do not empty your bladder or urinate before entering the scan room. Having a comfortably full bladder ensures the highest quality image resolution.
🍽️ Upper Abdominal Fasting Rules
For upper abdominal scans (inspecting liver, gall bladder, or pancreas), food intake causes the gallbladder to contract and increases gas in the digestive tract, obscuring organ visibility. You must fast (eat and drink nothing but plain water) for 6 to 8 hours prior to your ultrasound scan.
